Toronto's Entertainment District consists of eight city blocks that house a wide variety of entertainment. The area boasts a host of dining choices from pubs and bars to upscale bistros, serving everything from steak and seafood to international entrees. The area also has many nightlife spots from dance clubs and live music venues to theatres, as well as a myriad of shops, hotels and services.
Yorkville has been transformed from a quiet, residential town filled with Victorian style houses, to an upbeat bohemian-style neighbourhood. Many bars, art galleries, antique stores, and cafes scatter the streets. Yorkville has been said to be the main birthplace for many of Canada’s most important musical figures including Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. Its main street, Hazelton Lanes, is known for upscale shopping, restaurants, salons and five star hotels.
The financial district is the main business region in Toronto, and is the economic heart of Canada. It is bounded roughly by Queen Street West to the north, Yonge Street to the east, Front Street to the south, and University Avenue to the west. It is the most densely built-up area of Toronto, home to numerous banking companies, corporate headquarters, high-powered legal and accounting firms, insurance companies and stockbrokers.
More than any other neighbourhood in Toronto, King Street West has undergone a dramatic transformation in the last few years. Back in the 90’s the landscape was dominated by vacant land and abandoned industrial buildings. By 1999, Toronto Life Magazine rated the King Street West area as one of the most up-and-coming places to live, based on how quickly real estate was selling. Single professionals, young families, and even some retired couples have made the community their own, changing it into a modern residential oasis. This area is just a short walk from the art galleries, bars, restaurants, clubs and shopping on Queen Street West and on King Street itself.
